Chinese EVs in Georgia: the GB/T connector and where to charge

GB/T is on 361 stations in Georgia against 384 for European CCS2. In Europe GB/T barely exists; here the two are nearly level.

334 of those 361 sit on the same cabinet as a CCS2 gun. This is not separate infrastructure, it is the same fast chargers carrying both plugs.

Which cars this covers

GB/T is the Chinese national standard, carried by almost every EV built for the Chinese market: BYD, Zeekr, Li Auto, NIO, Xpeng, Wuling, Chery, Changan and others.

Georgia has taken in a lot of these cars in recent years, and charger operators built for them.

GB/T comes in two forms

This is where people most often get confused. GB/T is not one connector but two: one for slow AC charging, one for fast DC. They look similar, but they are different physical plugs and are not interchangeable.

Many Chinese EVs have both ports, often on opposite sides of the car. If you are a new owner, work out which port is which first.

In Georgia GB/T is mostly there for fast charging: 349 stations are DC and only 12 are AC.

Why this is good news

Owners of Chinese cars often worry they will depend on separate, rare infrastructure. In Georgia that is not the case.

Of the 361 GB/T stations, 334 are on cabinets that also carry CCS2. These are dual-gun fast chargers: one cabinet, two cables, one European and one Chinese. You charge at the same stations European cars do.

The practical conclusion is that a Chinese car has almost no coverage problem in Georgia.

What power you will get

Most GB/T stations in Georgia are 120 kW. There are also a good number of 30 and 47 kW units, which are noticeably slower, while the most powerful cabinets reach 160 kW.

Remember the car sets a ceiling too. If your model accepts 60 kW, a 120 kW charger still gives you 60.

AC charging and Type 2

Chinese cars imported officially for Europe usually have a Type 2 AC port, while cars brought in from the Chinese market have GB/T AC. The difference matters: Type 2 is on 243 stations in Georgia, GB/T AC on only 12.

If your car came from China and you plan to charge at home, the wallbox has to match your actual AC port.
